Cancer Charities and Dropbar

We started our little Watford bike shop in a very strange year, after we each had a parent diagnosed with cancer. One of them is doing really well, and unfortunately we lost the other very quickly, in very sad circumstances.

This led us to a few realisations:

  • Life is too short to be talking about a dream for ten years

  • We need to build a working life where we can spend time with our family

  • We want to help the people who helped us

Andi’s dad Mike was a car mechanic, and so we felt that by starting up our own business, just like he did, we were honouring his memory. He had always been a big supporter and believer in our dream, so it felt right that he jumpstarted the realisation of it.

We knew, after the awful year we had, that we wanted to build a business that gave back.

This is how we’re supporting cancer charities at Dropbar Bike Repair:

  • 10% of profits every month go to a different cancer charity

  • Our launch party raised £150 for North London Hospice

  • Our first raffle (a carbon fibre Vitus) raised £500 for Prostate Cancer UK

  • We’ve got much more on the way….

We’re really eager to connect with and support cancer charities in Watford, whether that’s hospice care, nurses, mental health support or support for families with ill relatives. We made use of lots of support last year, and we know it’s one of those things you often don’t realise how difficult it is until you’re in it.

We’re always looking for new ideas, so if you’re riding for charity, share it with us on our Instagram, or if there’s something we can get involved with, let us know.

At the moment, as a small family business, and a start up in our first year of business, we aren’t donating huge amounts, but we have every intention of making a long term impact, out of love for our family members, here and gone.

Do send us an email if you have any ideas, or if you’d like to connect with us!
